With its sprawling 55-acre expanse nestled along the meandering Tarago River, Glen Cromie Reserve stands as a hidden gem in Gippsland, offering visitors an enchanting escape into nature. The reserve presents a diverse landscape of stunning trees, beautifully maintained grassed areas, and expansive playgrounds that create an immersive natural environment.
The reserve's rich history dates back to the late 1800s when it was known as Glen Cromie Caravan Park. Joseph Cromie, who owned a General drapery and Manchester store in Warragul, established the area as a picnic park for his employees' recreation and functions. Over the years, the park has evolved into a comprehensive caravan, camping, and day-use destination.
Visitors to Glen Cromie Reserve can explore approximately 2 kilometers of bush walking tracks that wind through towering gum trees and beautiful tree ferns. The area boasts abundant wildlife and birdlife, making it an ideal location for nature enthusiasts. The Tarago River provides multiple beach areas for swimming and fishing, enhancing the recreational opportunities available to guests.
The facility features three amenities blocks, scheduled for renovation in late 2022, and five spacious shelters equipped with tables, chairs, and electrical connections. These shelters serve as perfect venues for various gatherings, from work events to family reunions. The park provides coin-operated electric BBQs, though visitors can bring their own equipment, subject to fire ban regulations.
Located less than an hour from Melbourne at 850 Main Neerim Road, Drouin West, the reserve attracts a diverse range of visitors, from young couples and families to grandparents sharing quality time with their extended families. The park offers various accommodation options, including established sites with caravans and annexes, as well as spaces for visitors to bring their own camping equipment.
For those interested in longer-term arrangements, the reserve occasionally offers holiday sites for sale, providing an opportunity for regular visitors to secure their own piece of this tranquil retreat. The management team remains committed to maintaining the park's welcoming atmosphere and ensuring all guests can enjoy their stay in this peaceful natural setting.
